Mermaid diagrams: insert, edit, and export
Updated today
Mermaid diagrams have a first class support in SlidesAI. The diagram renders in your deck's theme colors and stays editable as text, through inline labels, or with AI.
Mermaid diagrams are a SlidesAI Platform editor feature; the Google Slides add-on, PowerPoint add-in, and ChatGPT helper are unchanged.
Add a diagram
The Insert menu groups every diagram type behind a single searchable list, so you jump straight to the one you want.
In the bottom toolbar, click Insert.
Point at Mermaid to open the diagram list.
Type in the search box to filter, then click a type to drop it on the slide.
Edit a diagram
Select an existing diagram and click Edit diagram in its toolbar to open the editor. You can edit the diagram by editing the mermaid syntax in the editor.
You can edit labels directly in the preview. Quick add in the preview adds some elements to start off with.
You don't need to know mermiad to edit these diagram, you can simply use the Ask AI feature.
Change a diagram with AI
Click Ask AI in the editor to describe a change in plain language, or pick a quick edit: Fix labels, Simplify diagram, or Add more detail.
Open Ask AI and describe the change, or choose a quick edit.
Review the before-and-after in Compare changes.
Click Accept & save to apply it, or Reject to keep the original. Ask for another change to keep refining.
Diagrams follow your theme
A new diagram picks up your deck's colors, fonts, and background automatically, so it looks part of the slide rather than pasted on.
Switch your presentation's theme and every diagram recolors itself to match on its next render — you don't reapply anything.
Size, align, and background
The diagram's toolbar controls how it sits in its box, which matters when a wide diagram shares a slide with other content.
Fit — Contain keeps the whole diagram visible, Cover fills the box and crops the overflow, and Fill stretches it to the box.
Horizontal align and Vertical align position the diagram inside its box.
Background sets the surface behind the diagram, or matches it to the slide.
Export or copy a diagram
From the diagram's toolbar, click Export to take a single diagram out of the deck.
Download PNG or Download SVG saves the diagram as an image file.
Copy PNG puts it on your clipboard to paste into another app.
Copy source copies the Mermaid text to reuse the diagram elsewhere.
